Sherlock Homes House Investigation

The Centre for Sustainable Energy and Portishead Town Council have developed a home energy Investigation for upper KS2 and KS3 (10-14 year old children), ideal as a October half term activities or as part of learning about climate change and energy.

The survey will help them identify things like what kind of home they live in, how it's heated, how to spot problems, and where to begin fixing them. It's a fun, interactive way for young people to start learning about energy efficiency and think about how they use energy at home.

The free resource pack, called Sherlock Homes: House Investigation includes:

  1. An accessible survey (Investigation) aimed at upper KS2 and KS3 designed to help them look at their home in a new way, spotting what's working well and what could be improved. It can be completed independently or with a parent or carer.
  2. An engaging how-to guide and reference sheet (Investigation Tips) to help them get started and know what to look for.
  3. A menu of suggestions (Solutions). Young people will be able to match problems they've identified to ideas for realistic and easy to implement solutions and create their own set of recommendations.

If the Investigation is completed and brought along to the Sustainable Portishead Energy Expo on Saturday 2 November at Somerset Hall, there's a chance to win tickets for We the Curious, and there will be goodies for all.

There will also be a chance to try out the resources, as well as playing with tools like thermal imaging cameras, at Portishead Library on Wednesday 30 October.
