Mobile Library Service Changes from 7th Jan 2019
News - 10 December 2018
The routes and stops for the Mobile library service are reviewed annually to ensure that we are making best use of the vehicle taking account of changing demand for the service and operational requirements. Our single vehicle provides a library service to 28 communities throughout the District across a 2 week cycle. Whilst the majority of stops are fortnightly, busier locations are served weekly and a small number twice weekly. Where possible we seek to operate the service in geographic clusters to avoid unnecessary journeys across the District.
This year, following the Council’s decision to close Long Ashton Library and replace it with a mobile library service, we have had to undertake a wider than usual review of our routes and stops. Whilst around half of our stops remain unchanged, some have had their timings slightly amended, and others have been moved to a different day of the week. We acknowledge the inconvenience that this may cause for some of our residents - the process of timetabling the Mobile is a complex one and we do not undertake such changes lightly.
Redcliff Bay, Portishead
- The area is served by regular buses, operating at least every 30 minutes into the town centre. The home library service could be made available to any user who is unable to reach Portishead library through reasons of health / disability.
- This fortnightly stop is just over 2 miles from Portishead library, and is currently used by 2 regular customers who drive to the mobile and have both indicated that they can drive into Portishead instead.
