Safety gates to be installed at Portishead Lake Grounds
News - 18 January 2021
Despite our concerns, North Somerset Council (NSC), the landowner of the Lake Grounds, has informed us that it will be installing safety gates at both ends of the Esplanade.
NSC has stated that the gates will be used for both flood management purposes and to shut the Esplanade for major events. We have been told that the gates will be installed in the open position, which will happen later this week (Thursday 22nd January).
Portishead Town Council has made numerous representations to NSC to express opposition to these measures without NSC first putting in place an investment plan and consultation to fully consider the future of the Lake Grounds.
The Town Council remains committed to continuing discussions with NSC on a strategic, long-term plan for the Lake Grounds, which needs to consider the views of all residents through a proper consultation process. We hope to be able to report positive news on these discussions later this year.
If you’d like to voice your opinion to NSC, you can do so through the enquiry form, where it will be directed to the NSC team who manage the Lake Grounds.
