Rapid Coronavirus testing available at Somerset Hall
News - 21 January 2021
North Somerset Council (NSC) are now offering rapid Coronavirus tests across the county, with one of the testing sites located at Portishead's Somerset Hall. It will be open seven days a week from 9am-5pm for pre-booked appointments.
Anyone living or working in North Somerset will be able to have a test, with critical workers and volunteers in roles which bring them into contact with the community offered weekly slots. The aim is to support those who cannot work from home in the current lockdown as they deliver key services like childcare, transport, essential shopping, and looking after vulnerable people.
Community testing to find residents who have Covid-19 with no symptoms is helpful as those people can then isolate and prevent the virus from spreading.
NSC have advised to those getting tested that it remains really important to follow the same coronavirus rules and prevent potential spread, even if they test negative. These rules are to continue to wash their hands frequently, wear a mask if they can, stay at least 2m away from anyone not in their household or support bubble, and follow the lockdown rules.
Rapid testing is only one of the approaches usied to fight coronavirus in North Somerset. There are many tools being used including the vaccine, NHS Test and Trace, government restrictions to limit social interaction and infection control measures in buildings open to the public. None of these would be effective alone, but together they will help us get back to doing those things we love in the future.
You can find out more about rapid testing and book a test on the North Somerset Council website.
