Marina Gardens: Statement from PTC
News - 19 October 2020
Alliance Homes have confirmed their intention to buy the vacant Marina Gardens development in Portishead for 127 new affordable homes for sale and rent. Alliance is an independent, not-for-profit affordable housing provider. This is a fantastic move towards affordable homes being made available in Portishead.
Before submitting a full planning application, Alliance Homes will engage with Portishead residents to provide further information, consider community and commercial uses of the ground floor, and to seek feedback that will help guide the planning process. A webpage will shortly be made available with details of the scheme.
Portishead Town Council has and will continue to work to involve our community to make sure this is a positive step forward for Portishead. PTC have been engaged in the community’s best interests since the application for change of use was put in by the original site owners, Pegasus Life. PTC engaged in social media and site visit consultation with the public, and later, Alliance Homes and North Somerset Council.
We understand our residents’ concerns about parking and infrastructure around the development. Alliance addressed both issues during their presentation in September’s Town Council meeting (which can be found on the Town Council website). Alliance have proposed at least one parking space per unit. They are also planning to make its office car park next door available for overnight and weekend parking.
The purchase is subject to planning approval and successfully receiving grant funding from both Homes England and North Somerset Council. Portishead Town Council has been consulted by Alliance Homes at an early stage but has no direct financial or other involvement in the project.
We will keep you updated about how you can comment and get involved.
