The Portishead Lions

Grant awarded -£1,189 on 12th Aug 2020

"The Portishead Lions provide and maintain 28 defibrillators in Portishead. 7000 people have been trained to use this life saving equipment located on our streets. Portishead Town Council has recognised the impact that Covid has had on fund raising and operating costs this year. The grant awarded will help The Lions to continue to support and protect this life saving service for Portishead residents."

Great Western Air Ambulance Charity

Grant awarded - £2,000 on 12th August 2020


"Great Western Air Ambulance Charity provides the air ambulance and critical care service for the residents of Portishead. GWAAC’s team of specialist Doctors and Paramedics attend the most critically ill and injured patients in the town in our helicopter and critical care cars. By bringing the hospital Emergency Department directly to the patient, wherever they may be, GWAAC is able to save time and save lives. By continuing to support GWAAC, Portishead Town Council is helping to ensure that Portishead residents have access to one of the best Critical Care Teams in the country. We are proud to be at the forefront of pre-hospital emergency medicine, delivering the best possible care to the local community. You never know when you might need Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, but your continued support means that we can be there for the people of Portishead."

Wellspring Counselling Limited

Grant awarded - £1,500 on 9th September 2020

"Wellspring provides professional affordable Counselling for adults and donation based Counselling and CBT for young people age 11-25 in North Somerset. We enable clients of all ages to access both affordable and longer-term Counselling, where there is clinical need. The Grant will enable Wellspring to subsidise more sessions for Portishead residents in need of Counselling support and provide more free CBT sessions for local young people."

Enjoy Church

Love: Portishead – Feeding Vulnerable Families 

Grant awarded - £1500 on 31 December 2020 & £1500 on 31 March 2021

"The Love: Portishead – Feeding Vulnerable Families project started in February 2020. Prior to the Coronavirus outbreak Enjoy Church has been working with local schools to identify and assist the most vulnerable families in Portishead. The Grant will enable us to continue to provide grocery and food packages to the most vulnerable families in Portishead."

St Peter & St Paul Weston-In-Gordano Parochial Church Council

Grant Awarded - £100 on 11th November 2020

St. Peter & St. Paul is a Grade I listed church in Weston-in-Gordano. The church has a strong connection to Portishead with many visits from Portishead and North Weston residents. Grant funding will go towards the upkeep of the churchyard, burial ground and boundary walls.

Portishead Window Wanderland

Grant Awarded - £500 on 9th December 2020

Window Wanderland is an established nationwide charity and free, inclusive community event. Local residents and businesses are invited to create displays in their windows to make a walkable trail for people to follow. Portishead has successfully taken part in Window Wanderland for the last 4 years, with the next event taking place in the town 6th-7th March 2021. The grant will be used to fund design and distribution of flyers and banners.

St Peter’s Hospice

Grant Awarded – £2,985 on 9th December 2020

St Peter’s Hospice is a local charity that provides care and support to adults who are living with a progressive life-limiting illness in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset area. In the past 12 months, St Peter’s Hospice have provided support to 120 patients in Portishead. They have been established for over 40 years and support up to 500 patients at any one time.

The majority of support is provided in people’s homes. Support is focused around the physical, psychological, social and spiritual issues that can arise as a result of serious illness, in order to improve the quality of a person’s life. Grant funding will go towards the purchase of three syringe pumps.
